An update on the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, as the findings from its national Pilot Testing Programme have now been published in the Standard’s December 2025 Pre-Launch Update.
Between April and August 2025, the Pilot was applied to 205 projects across 134 owners, covering a wide range of sectors and building types. The purpose was to test the usability, clarity and market readiness of the Pilot Version of the Standard ahead of finalising Version 1, which is due for release in early 2026.
Winvic Construction was one of the Pilot Participants, applying the Standard to live projects and providing structured feedback through technical surveys and forums. Insights from all participating organisations are now being used to refine the Standard, inform new annexes and guidance, and shape its verification process.
Arun Thaneja, Technical Services and Sustainability Director at Winvic, is available for interview to discuss Winvic’s experience of applying the Standard and how the findings are informing project delivery and internal processes. He can speak specifically about data requirements, operational performance, and practical implications for achieving net zero aligned outcomes.
Quote available for use from Arun: “By participating in the Standard’s Pilot Testing Programme, we’re supporting the decarbonisation of the built environment by focusing on measurable outcomes through building performance in operation, to achieve genuine environmental benefits. Understanding the process of applying the Standard now enables us to reduce risk, build resilience, and unlock sustainable opportunities. Overall, the pilot testing experience has strengthened our understanding of how to align internal reporting with the Standard. We are now better equipped to generate project level data that directly supports whole-life carbon reduction and operational efficiency targets. This has reinforced our commitment to embedding consistent, measurable processes across all projects, driving continuous improvement in our approach to truly net zero project delivery.”
